Brick & Block Masonry in Clanton, AL
Good masonry is one of those things that tends to go unnoticed when it’s done well, and becomes very obvious when it isn’t. A brick walkway that holds its line, a block retaining wall that stays plumb season after season, a fireplace surround finished with clean mortar joints, these are the kinds of results that come from a mason who takes the craft seriously and doesn’t cut corners where corners matter most.
Integrity Construction & Fencing handles brick and block masonry projects throughout Central Alabama, from structural block work to decorative brick applications and everything in between. We bring over 20 years of experience to every project and the same standard of care, whether the job is a single garden wall or a more complex structural build. If it involves brick or block, we build it right.
What Brick & Block Masonry Can Do for Your Property

The Kind of Solid That Lasts Generations
Properly laid block and brick aren’t just durable in the short term; they’re the kind of construction that can outlast the structures around them. Correct footing depth, quality mortar, proper coursing, and attention to drainage are what separate masonry that performs for decades from masonry that starts showing problems within a few years. We take the long view on every project we take on.

More Design Options Than You Might Think
Running bond, stacked bond, Flemish bond, herringbone: the pattern alone significantly changes how a brick surface reads. Add in the range of brick colors and textures available, from traditional red clay to more contemporary blended tones, and brick masonry becomes a material with real design range. We help homeowners think through those decisions during the planning process so the finished work looks exactly the way it was meant to.

Repairs Done Right, Not Just Patched Over
Tuckpointing, brick replacement, mortar joint repair, and structural corrections are all part of the masonry work we handle. A repair done correctly addresses the underlying issue and blends cleanly with the surrounding masonry. A repair done carelessly makes the problem worse and the fix more obvious. We approach every repair with the same standard we bring to new construction.
Built With Integrity, Backed By Experience
Masonry work rewards patience and penalizes shortcuts. Every course of brick or block affects the one above it, and a mistake made early in the build shows up repeatedly as the work progresses. That’s why experienced masons work deliberately, checking plumb and level consistently, managing mortar mix and joint depth carefully, and making decisions that reflect how the finished structure needs to perform, not just how quickly the job can be completed.
We bring that kind of care to every brick and block project we take on. From the footing to the cap, each phase of the work gets done with an eye on the finished result and the long-term performance of the structure. That’s what masonry built with integrity actually looks like in practice.

Good Masonry Questions. Solid Answers.
We work on a wide range of brick and block masonry projects for residential properties. That includes structural blockwork for walls, foundations, and retaining structures; decorative brick applications for walkways, patios, steps, and garden walls; fireplace and outdoor feature surrounds; and masonry repair work on existing structures that have developed issues over time.
If the project involves brick or block, we’re the right team for it. We’ll assess the scope during the consultation and let you know exactly what the work involves before any commitments are made.
Tuckpointing is the process of removing deteriorated mortar from brick joints and replacing it with fresh mortar. Over time, mortar joints crack and erode, allowing moisture to penetrate the masonry, which accelerates deterioration of both the joints and the brick. Tuckpointing addresses that before it becomes a more serious structural problem.
It’s typically needed when mortar joints show visible cracking, crumbling, or gaps that allow water intrusion. Catching it early is significantly less involved and less costly than letting moisture damage compound over multiple seasons. If your brick structures are showing signs of mortar joint wear, it’s worth having them assessed sooner rather than later.
Brick and block masonry is used across a wider range of residential applications than most homeowners initially consider. Here’s where we most commonly put them to work:
- Retaining walls — block is one of the most common materials for structural retaining walls
- Garden and landscape walls — brick and block both work well for low decorative walls and raised planting beds
- Walkways and patios — brick pavers and laid brick create surfaces with classic, lasting appeal
- Steps and stair structures — block and brick handle the load and exposure of outdoor steps reliably
- Outdoor fireplace and fire pit surrounds — masonry is the material of choice for fire features built to last
- Pillars, columns, and entry features — brick and block add permanence and character to entry points and structural accents
- Repairs and restoration — tuckpointing, brick replacement, and mortar joint repair on existing structures
If your project involves any of those applications or something similar, reach out, and we’ll talk through the work.
The most visible signs are cracked or crumbling mortar joints, spalling or flaking brick faces, visible gaps in the mortar, staining or efflorescence on the surface, and any noticeable leaning, bowing, or settling in a wall or structure. Any of those is worth taking seriously because masonry issues tend to compound over time rather than stabilize on their own.
Water is the primary driver of most masonry deterioration. Once moisture gets into the structure through damaged joints or cracked brick, freeze-thaw cycles and continued saturation accelerate the damage significantly. Addressing the issue at the repair stage is almost always less involved and less costly than waiting until the damage requires more extensive reconstruction.
Well-built brick-and-block masonry is among the longest-lasting construction materials available. Historic brick structures that are centuries old are a testament to how long quality masonry lasts when it is built correctly and maintained reasonably well over time. For residential projects, a properly built brick or block structure can realistically last the lifetime of the home and beyond.
The factors that most affect longevity are worth keeping in mind:
- Quality of the original installation, particularly footing depth and mortar mix
- How well mortar joints are maintained and repaired over time
- Drainage conditions around the base of the structure
- Exposure level and how well the masonry sheds water rather than absorbing it
- Whether repairs are addressed promptly when early signs of deterioration appear
The masonry itself is rarely the weak point. It’s the maintenance of the mortar joints and the management of moisture over time that determines how long a brick or block structure continues to perform at its best.
